Since the sale of commercial use drones started, different companies and entrepreneurs have been trying to use them for different purposes. This might come as a surprise to many, but there is a plan being initiated to use intelligent quadcopters for sports. Presently the sports being considered for the startup are badminton and tennis.
Do not worry, you would not be expected to hit your expensive drone with a heavy racket. The quadcopter named “Zyro DroneBall” uses the movements from a special sensor to plan out its trajectory. The objective of this initiative is to get rid of the need for professional courts to play such games, without removing the amazing experience.
The “Zyro DroneBall” would be custom programmable, so it can be used for a variety of different games. No more hassling to buy different types of balls for different games, you would have a universal ball, perfectly capable of being used anywhere for any sports and any number of opponents.
The current plan is to develop the “Zyro DroneBall” to take input from the user with the help of a special wand. This wand can be used on its own or can be attached to the sports equipment, relevant to the sport in question, to enhance the experience. You can even play against a computerized opponent with varying levels of skills. Personally, I think it is a good initiative to get couch potatoes of their seats and into some exercise.
There are of course technicalities involved in this, but the company plans to launch a smart phone app to help you better configure your “Zyro DroneBall”. You can draw a custom court and indicate the boundaries yourself so the drone would know when it has gone out of play.
Gone would be the days of arguing with your friends if the tennis ball dropped inside the boundary line or outside it. Technology will be the judge for such arguments soon. The expected price of the drone ball should be around $450, which is small considering what it has to offer.
